If your phone is still in good condition, you can trade it in on Amazon.com

can you rule out app related issues first? kill all processes, disable cellular data & push notification. for iPhone4 and new batteries you should only see 1-2% drain per hour at standby mode.

drumn_bass wrote: See guys, it's not that I'm not aware of the system, we don't have a system. Maybe we'll get it added soon, but untill then, even if I wanted to go ahead and unlock an iPhone for someone, there is nothing I can do to make it happen. This actually makes perfect sense. Fundamentally Apple's unlock notification system is the confidential know-how provided t...

Just to be clear I can perfectly understand why ATT is reluctant to unlock iPhones. From a business perspective ATT stands to gain nothing (unless a fee is charged for the unlocking) but would need to spend a non-trivial amount of effort of logistics and employee training to support unlocking existing AT&T iPhones -- given how ignorant and ill-informed ATT employees are a...

drumm_bass, the carrier-to-Apple unlock authorization & notification system is not "made-up" stuff. It is real and it is EXACTLY how other carriers around thd world (e.g. O2 in UK) unlocks its customers' iPhones. I have to assume that you are being honest and ATT employees are genuinely unaware of the existence of this system. The alternative (that you're intentionally mis...

Charging $50 or even a bit higher than the price difference sounds fair to me. There is nothing wrong with making money out of 'air'. Think about paying extra for the software activation code to unlock functionality already present in the program exeutable, or premium TV program subscription fees to allow your DVR to unscramble the HBO bits that is always transmitted on th...

All that fineprint says is that the GSM and CDMA versions of phones are different; one device cannot support both "network technologies" simultaneously. It is rather far-fetched imho to interpret this as a life long commitment to stay locked to a carrier.

"The policy is documented - on paper, electronicly AND on the box of every Iphone sold by ATT" This is patently false information. There is no such policy on the box of Iphone. Show us some verifiable proof please.

Youngim, I agree with you, yours is a valid point. I'm merely pointing out that the argument of drumm_bass is invalid.

Please don't insult our intelligence. Nobody here is asking AT&T to sell unlocked iPhone at the same subsidized price of $199 (or $49 for 3GS). The question is for devices purchased at full price, or those after completion of the 2 year contract. In both cases, the $400 subsidy is already paid for.

"Phones are locked because when carrier gives you $400 discount" Ha ha... let's do a fact check (1) Locking is not necessary for the subsidy because the discount requires signing a contract. Merely breaking out of the contract costs you $375 early termination fee plus at least one monthly payment, this is more than adequate for AT&T to recoup the subsidy. (2) Even after f...

Fair enough. Only in the Land of the Free U S of A can AT&T be "not required to give you an unlock code". Maybe we should change the law, but whatever. I wonder how much money did the company spend lobbying.
