It's just AT&T's normal bad Authentication server problem. It happens every now and then. It's too much trouble for them to look at the server logs to see which one is expriencing the problem, so they wait until several thousand complaints are sent in. They'll get around to it sometime.

Just a clarification, do you log into your e-mail from your browser on line, or use a client like MS outlook? If you are using your browser to read the e-mail then a virus on your PC is less likely then having the client on your PC. I do (nonprofit) PC support for several people and have fond some of their accounts have been compromised while being logged in on line (incl...

Could you use an e-mail client like outlook and not keep your address book on line?

This seems to be a common problem with Yahoo. I had to delete my on-line address book to stop it. IMO it seems to be accounts that are accessed using webmail, not accounts that are accessed using e-mail clients.

@Alex I guess you (at&t) know that this problem is getting a lot of attention on DSL Reports too. The Yahoo folks have some intermittent authentication server in their center that needs to be isolated and fixed before we all go nuts.

In the clear = not encrypted. When I investigated all the activity was in the webmail application. The addresses used were the ones in my online address book and the sent folder had copies of the malicious e-mail that was sent. My desktop e-mail client had nothing. This has happened on various PCs and Yahoo accounts. My one Yahoo account does not have POP3 access, only we...

I have an opposite take on this since it has happened to me on two different accounts. If you are using webmail or have a "My Yahoo" custom home page you are "logged in" and therefore in the clear. When you enter the password it's encrypted, but from that point I think you're in the clear. I don't normally use webmail, but one day I used it and left it connected most of t...
