They use Belkin components, the lowest quality consumer component maker out there. My DVR needs to be replaced every 18 months at best. I swap the disk in mine before sending the failed unit back. I also use Usenet and torrents to download content, it is not illegal in my opinion to make backup copies of content I already have. (I also download additional movies and conce...

An AT&T rep had me perform a simple test, use Google DNS instead of the DHCP delivered DNS address from the UVerse router. Preliminary results of streaming 2 video's each from 4 news sites last night showed a remarkable increase in performance. This morning as well, not a single glitch. I moved dhcp to my 'nix box but unfortunately for most, with the DHCP service on the U...

I can't help but be cynical, as any AT&T rep in this forum has remained silent, that this is all intentional. Degrade Netflix, news content providers, anything that cuts in to AT&T's TV ad revenue. Back it up with usage caps for those of us that bring in most of our TV shows via NNTP and Bittorrent. That appears to be AT&T's plan.

Try it again tomorrow and odds are it will be a problem again. I can as of a few minutes ago stream CNN video's but ABC News is a fail. Fox News not working either. (Not that I watch unpatriotic terroist inspiring propaganda, for testing only) While inconsistent the problem is more often very apparent everywhere, except for some reason YouTube almost always works fine. I ...

There is nothing wrong with my system. I make my living as a network engineer and can smell a problem in the cloud here, and nothing ticks me off more than when I have to diagnose and fix other people’s problems. Two neighbors of mine are having the same problems with UVerse. It started about 5 weeks ago for all of us. Last week I called the general tech support. I had to...

I have to start then pause a 3 minute video for 5-8 minutes to buffer the stream. Why does it take up to ten minutes to download a 3 minute news video? Speed tests from here run fine. If I establish a VPN tunnel to a non-AT&T network and route all of my traffic over it, all of the same news sites stream in video at full speed. CNN, WTHN, WFSB, etc. Why is AT&T intentional...

Anything not accurate was based on B.inaccurateS. info given to me by script reading AT&T tech support.

1. AT&T will give you a router with wireless access point. I don't know about everywhere but here it is a cheap poor quality Belkin, I think everything Belkin makes is horrible, we're on our third one in 14 months. Anyhow, you can put whatever WAP or router you want on the LAN but forgetaboutit if you used a site to site VPN in the past. 3. Not a problem, but if you use t...

About three weeks ago my wife and I noticed that video's on cnn.com and our local TV stations no longer stream in fast enough to watch. The typical 2-3 minute news story would have to be paused for 5 minutes or more to be playable. I would test at a couple of speed tests site, no trouble there. Our same laptops work fine on non-AT&T networks. Today I had a shell open on a...
