Ah, ok. Well, I don't plan to have an STB connected to my switch ports; sounds like I'll be alright. I think if I did have U-Verse TV, I would simply use a managed switch to segment the STBs onto another port-based VLAN.

SomeJoe7777, can you please expound on the multicast issue? I thought the LAN Ethernet ports on the 2WIRE RG were completely separated from the IPTV multicast streams by VLAN or otherwise.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I'm about to wire my house as well, and currently am planning on simply connecting one of my gigabit switch ports to a port on the 2WIRE RG, allowing the RG to continue functioning as the router and DHCP server. I think there's been a miscommunication; perhaps they think you want to connect a switch port to the RG and grab publ...

I would like my RG to be in my laundry room, on top of a cabinet. The distance between where it is now and the laundry room is only about 3 feet. How much would this cost?

Came across this conversation via Google. I'm about to wire my house up with Cat-6, and was wanting to use the RG as a simple modem, bypassing the routing functions. It now seems to me that the best setup would be to allow the 2WIRE RG to maintain its function as a router, burn a switch port connecting to it, and connect an 802.11n AP to the switch. That is, unless anyone...
