The leaked build of 2.2 was a slight improvement over 2.1 for me, but nothing to write home about. If you want a real ROM, go grab one from the xda developers forums. There are a bunch of ROMs that use 2.2.1 and are waaaaay better and faster.

Yes, you are correct. The captivate is HSPA not HSPA+. So yes he would need another phone to use a HSPA+ network, but HSPA+ is also 3G. The difference is up to 84Mbps for HSPA+ versus 100Mbps to 1Gbps for a true 4G network. I'm getting technical here... AT&T's network is really not 4G - It's a marketing gimmick. 3G and 4G are standards that 95% of consumers really do not know or care about other than the fact that 4 is a higher number than 3 and most people equate it with a faster speed.
