My "local news" consists of the weather report for Sunnyvale, CA, and an "Oops, we couldn't find any local news" - I'm guessing that was also for Sunnyvale CA. The older version of Yahoo used to give me the temperature for Geneva, IL (where I live), and local news for the Chicago area. The new improved Yahoo is ...

I see it is now "scholar". They didn't send me mail about that change. That's just as well, as the mail was getting a bit tiresome.

The sequence was "voyager"/"teacher"/"mentor" here. I guess they are trying a little flattery to perk up interest.

Mine has been on since Oct 2009, without interruption. There have been a few power outages, but the battery backup was adequate for those.

I enter the login information. Another login screen pops up. After about the third or fourth try, I get to see the mail. Something is broken. And no, I didn't enter the wrong password...

McAfee is still running on a computer here. And it recently updated to a newer version. So I guess they still have it. On another, older computer where I had McAfee, it also updated. That machine was slow starting with the old McAfee, and became unbearable with the new. So I removed it and load MSE. That rejuvenated the computer.

Sigh! In terms of the practicalities, a DNS server is authoritative because it appoints itself to be authoritative. The domain registrar does not assign authority for a domain. The root DNS servers do not assign authority for a domain. The root nameservers delegate to the authoritative server. However, the delegating records are not themselves authoritative. You have a po...

There are different kinds of security. Your 2Wire use WPA security (encryption) on the Wireless LAN (unless you have changed it). That should be sufficient protection to keep others out of your LAN. The firewall is more for protecting you from attacks coming over the wire (such as from half way around the world). It should provide adequate protection. There's nothing to l...
