I might have gotten it right... There appears to be a Kies Mini specifically for the Captivate in the Samsung Web site. Scroll down and click on software. It is the file with (ver.10082.8.1) Edit: This Mini version appears to be for Firmware Updates only. Hence the Kies (Firmware Update) button in the Captivate with JH7. I installed it along side the full version of Kies....

That's easy to say, but when more and more of the applications you use depend on accurate GPS location to give you "relevant" information it becomes an issue of having a fully functional "smartphone"... not a phone. Android itself is being developed by Google (The de facto search kings) I'd dare to say that t...

I read a "rummor", sorry I can't find the link, that Samsung is going to release a version of Kies that's specific for the US Galaxy S variants. (Compatible with the Captivate) If you have installed the recent firmware upgrade (JH7) you'll notice that Kies is now listed as "Kies (Firmware Update)". Supposedely a "hint" to a future compatible version of Kies. (The existing...

Over at XDA there is a thread about a firmaware update for the Captivate that's supposed to start today. Has anyone here receive it yet?

Thanks for your help! -Mike- The firmware you're running is not an "official" release... it is beta as mentioned above. That specific release is experimental and appears to have been used by Samsung developers to identify the GPS issues found in the official release (I897UCJF6 is ...

There might still be some hope... some of the folks at XDA got their hands on a newer release of the Captivate firmware and are reporting better performance and accuracy with the GPS... You can read about it here.

I tried the steps mentioned above and my Captivate worked fine for a while. Once I changed my location considerably... took the subway all the way downtown from uptown.... and tried to lock on GPS again the "accuracy" issue came right back. I was walking around the Staten Island Ferry station and my Captivate GPS put me on the water between Governors Island and the Manhat...

All we need is for Consumer Reports to test this little bugger so that AT&T and Samsung give this issue the priority it deserves. My old reliable BJII gets locks on GPS faster and gives me a more accurate location than my Captivate. If I walk on 11th Ave on the West side of Manhattan (NY) the Captivate places my location either in the middle of the Hudson river or on the ...

It looks like the No Lock app solves the problem of double lock for those that do not like to swipe. I guess I'm looking for the reverse. I don't mind the swipe as much as I don't like having to find and press the on/off button. The Captivate front is very simetrical, so I end up with the phone upside down many times. (50/50 chance is upside down when I take it out of my ...

I also installed Kies on Win 7 32-bit from the UK site and got it to work. I had already installed the USB driver from the Samsung US site to connect using Mass Storage to transfer my music to the external SD card. I don't know if Kies replaced the previous Samsung US USB driver as both MTP and Mass storage connections are working. I also set my USB driver on the phone to...

A couple days ago Samsung released the USB driver for the Captivate and and just yesterday the Captivate User's Manual and posted them here . I wonder if Samsung is also about to release a version of Kies that's also specific for the Captivate. I have read posts in other forums saying that synching the Captivate with the currently available version of Kies is no walk in t...
