I got an early version of the Captivate - the day it came out. I had some problems that got me a warranty exchange (shutdown issues, mainly), so I went through the paces of backing up all my apps using Astro Pro and, to be safe, also with AppList. New phone arrives, I download Astro Pro and tell it to install my 100+ apps... and every single one of them gives me an error ...

morechof wrote: Yes, the bottom line is that ATT choses not to let people know when a release/updates are coming. There is no way that ATT does not know when something is going to happen. Samsung has to put the version out with the ATT apps and then I would imagine ATT does Quality Assurance on it. ATT and Samsung have to be communicating. ATT needs to know so that they c...

Wow, my IMEI is way, way lower than that... I guess I'll go talk to an AT&T person. God help me.

But Samsung did communicate it. Over the summer they posted on their official UK Twitter feed that all Galaxy S carrier versions would have Froyo by November. Which makes the recent silence all the more conspicuous.

I'm north of Seattle, but it really shouldn't matter. If GPS, a location service, is itself location-dependent, then something is wrong. There's nothing wrong with the satellites - car GPS units function all over the globe. My TomTom works great in all the places my Captivate fails. Plus, the GPS Test app tells me which satellites are available and the signal strength, so...

If you do not like how it works go over to XDA and you load up a new ROM that is pretty much bug free and have Froyo. Coming in this forum whining and moaning about issues is stupid when the phone ...

I'm having the same problem. The Samsung-supplied cable worked fine since July, and I used the phone in mass storage mode to transfer music onto the phone and pictures off. Last week it stopped mounting as a storage device, and MacOS doesn't even recognize that a device is attached. Now I have to email myself pictures and use a microSD card to transfer music - both of whi...

First blame the reviewers who were on the take from Samsung and didn't reveal the GPS problem in virtually any review. My GPS has been pathetic since I got the phone, which is too bad, since Android has so many GPS-friendly apps (like Maps, Tasker and Parkdroid). I'm stock, not rooted, and while the update last August fractionally improved the time it took to get a lock the sensitivity is usually 50-250ft, which is no practical improvement over having no lock at all.

Sadly, the longer I have my Captivate (I got it the day it launched), the more I wish I'd waited... or gotten an iPhone... or switched to T-mobile. 1. It started with the useless GPS, then they put out a fix that made it only mostly useless - my GPS still rarely gets a lock closer than 50ft, making things like Parkdroid and Maps unusable. 2. They said they'd commit to a 2...
