I have an iPhone 6s Plus that suddenly stopped sending text messages as well--and I was also on a grandfathered plan. Go into settings---->messages---->make sure "send as SMS" is on. On my iPhone, this was strangely turned off at one point--though I swear I didn't do it.

On the other hand, if you *didn't* have unlimited data you would have been hit with huge overages. Since it was an accident that you left your phone downloading podcasts off wifi do you really think this will be an ongoing issue? Right now the only decent carrier offering true unlimited is T-mobile--and their coverage varies *greatly* by location. On occasion when I go ov...

Back in the day my Mom told me that you never bring up politics or religion in a polite conversation because people tend to get upset over those topics. I think we can revise that list to include unlimited data plans.

Not to split hairs, but if you purchase T-mobiles top unlimited plan you do not get throttled at any point. The cheaper plans do indeed throttle after a certain cap is reached, but they still offer a $80 truly unlimited data plan. However, I agree that offer would likely end if they got as many subscribers as AT&T or Verizon.

AT&T has long regretted ever offering unlimited data and they want everyone off it--but without technically forcing people. If they unthrottled the "unlimited" data plans then fewer people would leave them. Even though there are a few users left, unthrottling would undermine their justification for ending unlimited even though some competitors still have it.

I wonder if you have a bad sim card? Did you use the same one in both phones?

They performed this action for me just a few months ago--so I'm pretty sure its an ability that they still have. By the way, this was performed by the first rep I got on the phone--I wasn't transferred to a specialist. The automatic reset was in place--but for some reason didn't work for me that month.

Well, they actually *can* reset your data to full speed again. They did it for me once, and I had to shut my phone down and restart it after the rep did something on their end. However, this was when I was throttled and the speed didn't automatically reset after the new billing cycle started--so they were *willing* to do it. At any rate, its not the reps fault--they don't...

I'm on the grandfathered unlimited plan and also have to deal with throttling some months. I don't think AT&T should throttle at all, because the term "unlimited" shouldn't be applied to a service that "limits" the speeds you get. If AT&T is going to throttle then I wish it was at a speed of 2mb up and down. That's still compromised, but usable. Probably not gonna happen ...

Yeah, AT&T has been throttling unlimited data customers for awhile now. Since you mentioned they slowed you after 3GB--I assume then that *don't* have an LTE smarthphone correct? They throttle you at 5GB if you are on LTE so that's something to consider--an extra 2GB if you get a newer phone. As for the fairness, different people have various perspectives. As a grandfathe...

Keep in mind its in AT&T's interest to keep your throttling limit as low as they can get away with since it makes you more likely to leave your unlimited plan someday and pay for overages. I think the only chance that AT&T would raise the limit is if their currently available tiered data plans drop in price to the point where you could get 10GB of data for the same price ...

Are you referring to grandfathered unlimited plans that get throttled after 5GB? It would nice if the limit were raised--AT&T has done it before when they introduced the LTE service but I wouldn't hold your breath. If they do it won't be to 10GB--maybe 7GB.
