As of right now, 7:15 pm, Portland OR, Google and Gmail seem to be working fine. It may have been a temp. glitch.

I'm having the exact same problem - same start time. I'm using a 881 USBConnect on a laptop and desktop running Windows XP.

I have had a USBconnect for appx. 7 months now. I connect 3G 98% of the time. I am running Windows XP with SP2 on a Dell desktop. Occassionally, (60% of the time), I will get the, "can't make connection," or some such message, when I attempt to access the internet. I always get connected by plugging the USB cable into a different port, wait to hear the "new hardware found"...

I bought a 6' USB extension cable for my USB881 to get it on the window sill. The connection and speed is much improved on both the desktop and laptop.

I suspect a software confict. Is the operating system on your desktop XP? Vista? Are there any error messages? Any additional info will help.

Occassionally when I turn on my Dell laptop, with XP, I get the message "device not found" or something like that. The computer isn't recognizing the card plugged in to the USB port. When I get the message I inplug the USB card, plug it back in, and the computer recognizes it. Everything is ready to go.

You might try clearing your browsers history, cookies and internet files. I'm finding I have to do this more often since I started using the 881connect. I have also had good luck using Firefox as my browser.

I'm glad you got it working. I think there are still some bugs that need to be worked out with Vista.

I'm using the USB card on both my laptop and Dell desktop. When I initially tried to install the Comm. Manager on the desktop I got the "blue" freeze screen. I turns out a file associated with the Roxio CD creator was causing problems. I solved that, then the Comm software would load but just before it was finished, it would back out of the installation. I updated to the ...

Thanks for the responses. So far the 881 has been working pretty well. I have only had it freeze up a couple of times. I downloaded the software from Sierra and am using that to connect. I have come to the conclusion that the 881 works better on the laptop in terms of speed. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like DSL or cable will be in our area anytime soon. We have Verizon...

Hello all – last week I picked the USBConnect 881 and have it successfully working on my PC laptop and desktop, both running Window XP. The desktop is about 4 years old and the laptop is a couple of months old. The only reason we are going with the 881 is that we can only get dial up in our area and it has been painfully slow. I ’ m a bit nervous about committing to a 2 y...
