New Service but DOES NOT Accept Discover Card

Tried to sign up for 7 day trail, but DTVN says my Discover card is a prepaid card! Discover doesn't have prepaid cards. I can see DTVN accepts Discover card.

Below is my chat session:

from regular DIRECTV

yours that have no bank.

Claudia: I think that I know what is the problem now.

Claudia: Discover is a credit card brand issued primarily in the United States.

It was introduced by Sears

Claudia: Together with the Discover Card (and its issuing bank, the

Greenwood Trust Company, owned by Sears), this was named the Sears

Financial

Claudia: So it's not really a bank like other institutions, so it's more like a Trust

Company.

Claudia: Yes I have

Claudia: And we do have several accounts with Discover cards

are Debit cards

At the very least this should quiet the folks who claim chat support doesn't exist. :-)

Sounds like they really don't know what cards they take and which they don't. Discover seems to work "sometimes".

Yes "pre-sales" supports exist, but no FIX! What good is support with out a fix.

Could it be that your discover card is a secure card and not a credit card.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't know what a secure card is. Mine is regular Discover card. Directv satellite service didn't have any problem billing my Discover card.

@mhhman A secured credit card is backed by a cash deposit you make when you open the account. The deposit is usually equal to your credit limit, for example if you deposit $200 then you’ll have a $200 limit.

Beyond frustrating that customer service is not aware that Discover card is not accepted anymore. I wasted an hour plus trying to sign up for the 7 day only to be told after speaking to a manager that late last year Directv Now changed payment processors and no longer accepts Discover Card, PayPal or prepaid cards. ATT site still shows the old payment methods which includes all the major credit cards, PayPal and prepaid cards as well. Customer service just bounced from one rep to the next clearly not getting an update from the previous chat. As I only use Discover Card for these purchases they are not getting a new subscriber.

I'm not sure about that, they work very differently, and many "secured" cards have limits above that which was initially deposited. A pre-paid card could never have a limit above what was aid on the card.

Some pre-paid cards can be set up to allow recurring charges, some can't be.

Certainly DTVN can decide to accept or not accept anything they like, but I'd think they would want to make it as easy as possible for folks to subscribe.

If they were losing money due to pre-paid cards I could see why they might drop them, but I don't see any way they could lose, get money, authorize the account. As long as they do it in that order they should be safe.

Same thing happened to me tonight, tried my Discover and they said it was a prepaid. YO, Direct TV Now: you're losing business!!!!

Well the support site says they do accept Discover cards.

It also says they will take a pre-paid card after the free trial.

So if they (erroneously) think your card is pre-paid they should take it anyway, eventually.

Have you contacted support using the chat and discussed the issue with them? We certainly can not help wit billing issues?
