Why does my bill show mobile data on usage detail under text message?
My bill shows mobile data on my usage detail under text messages. I was told that is for 3rd party app messages like fb messenger or yahoo messenger. Is that the only reason that would be on there?

Hello Community!
Here is some information about apps and data usage on your phone.
Apps on your phone use mobile data. However, it is impossible to tell which apps on your phone used data over our network, so for each use of data, the data usage is rounded up to the nearest MB for all devices on your plan.
In fact, some apps on your device use wireless data even when connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Explore our interactive device tutorials on how to:
How you're billed for wireless usage depends on your plan. You can sign in at anytime to view and compare your plan.
To view details of what's included with your current plan, learn how to view your Customer Service Summary.
There are more details at Understand how wireless usage is billed. This is great information for finding out how you're billed for your wireless data, talk, and text use.
If you need more high-speed data before the end of your bill period, you can change to another plan. Learn about AT&T Unlimited plans.

That is incorrect. ATT does not know if the data is from a third party messenger. It could just as easily be data from a web browser or any other app. In fact, each data usage entry is almost always a combination of data used by all apps on the phone, not one specific app. The chat agent was wrong.

If you are looking at "text/data" on your bill, both are listed, but are not the same. As seen here.

There is no way to know if any data usage is from a third party messaging app vs any other app. Data is data. So is there other data usage listed elsewhere on your bill or is all your data usage mixed in with your text messages?

@StacyEee iMessages do not show up on your account usage. iMessage is an Apple system, ATT has no visibility into their system. If you are seeing messages sent to iPhones, then they are regular SMS texts and not iMessages. The one iphone you aren't seeing is probably because you only send iMessages to that number.

Well let me go ahead and tell you THEY/WHOEVER is WRONG obviously don't know what they are talking about, now just to tell you YES it is from a 3rd party text/SMS or calling app!!! If it were ANY of your DATA you use on a normal basis your bill would be COVERED in DATA on the bill and that's why you know it's a text/calling app, yes of course your bill has data usage but the ONLY thing as far as your CALLING LIST goes that's only for calls in/out, or text/MMs, SMS in or out that's all it will consist of
