I have an upgrade available and I plan on preordering the iphone X. Every time I get a new phone, I like to pay it off in full. My question is, If still have to pay full price ($999), for the phone, whats the point of having an upgrade?

You can keep your phone forever. If your Next plan is ending, that just means you are finished paying for it. The phone is yours to keep.

You don't have pay it off in full. If you really want iPhone X, you can use the Next Program to buy it.

An upgrade only means you can use the Next plan. You can buy a new phone anytime you want if you pay in full. You never have to wait for an upgrade if you pay in full.

If i decide to leave AT&T what happens to the money i owe on the phones we have on the next program? Do we have to pay them off before we can get new phone service? Does the ohter company take it over? Do we continue to pay AT&T?

Hello @LIndakoz!
Thank you for posting your question on the Community Forums! I can understand wanting to have more information about the Next Plan option. I can definitely help you clarify this for you!
With the AT&T Next Plan, you have the flexibility of getting a new phone financed. The good news is you have the ability to pay off any remaining installments at any time, if desired. This excellent article provides step-by-step instructions on how to complete this process online!
As far is if the other company you are considering will take over these payments, I suggest contacting them directly to get more information.
I hope you find this informative! If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to let us know.
Regards,

Every ad I see on Att is for Next 30 month on the X.
I realize it’s to show cheaper competitive monthy payments but I’m Next Every Year. Don’t want any 30 month deal I just want same plan. It’s bad enough you have to jump thru hoops to return your phone to ATT and their employees know so little about a popular program they introduced back in 2013.
And see no way to change the option online. This is one of slew of reasons I use Apple Store App for all upgrades.
It’s ridiculous that Apples app can immediately see ATT info on current iPhone 7plus and offer me SAME plan to upgrade and ATT app/ on-line doesn’t or can’t offer me the same❓❓❓

You are losing money trading in a one year old phone. iPhone 7 is worth more tha 50% on eBay.
Iwouldnt trade it in, I would sell it, then pay off ATT. I also wouldn’t upgrade with ATT Next.
Apples upgrade program gives you first shot at next years phone, and Apple care plus, which has many benefits insurance can’t match.
