How does the trade-in phone credits work?

Hello,

Verizon will give me a trade-in value for my phone, but the catch is I have to keep the new phone for 24 months or I will lose the credit. I feel this is unfair, I like to upgrade every year.

How does AT&T do this?

All carriers have pretty much the same deal, give it take a few options.  Verizon's is the least flexible.  Verizon has selected phones on their yearly upgrade/Trade in program.  The others have to pay off 100% and you keep the phone.

ATT does offer some flexibility.   Next every year is a 24 month payment plan, but after 12 payments, you can trade in the phone to upgrade with a new Next plan.   The 30 month plan, you must make 24 payments and trade in, or pay off the phone.

If you are an iPhone user, Apple has their own iPhone every year program with Apple care plus.  I highly recommend you buy unlocked devices like this if possible.

It depends on the offer. The offer for the free phone when you switch is, you get credit for 24 months. If you trade in the phone, you lose the credits.

Most providers do pretty much the same offers.
