The data plan is usually attached to the main line. Only the data plan is discounted on shared data plans.
On the unlimited plan I think it's applied to the plan charge., which is also attached to one line.

To add the discount....
https://forums.att.com/t5/Wireless-Billing/10-AARP-discount/m-p/4980769#M109195
1. Login to your AARP account. https://secure.aarp.org/applications/account/myAccount.action?intcmp=DSO-HDR-MYACCT-EWHERE-DSO-LOGIN
2. Go to AARP discounts. https://advantages.aarp.org/en/home.html
Choose the ATT discount.
3. Choose the "buy online" button. This will take you to ATT site where you can login.
4. Follow prompts on ATT website to add you discount.
This took maybe 5 minutes and my discount appeared on my next bill.

You shouldn't be getting a discount on either line, you should be getting it on the plan.
(Or are you on an old individual data plan?).

That's true I suppose it does "look" that way, but it's only dicounting the plan part.
With 10% it should be easy enough to see it's only the plan getting discounted...

You sure it's not $4 off the $40 plan? (you have the 3GB plan)
If it was off of the line charge, that means you're getting a discount off the phone too (that doesn't seem likely).
Countering that, I see the same thing when I look. https://www.att.com/att/aarp/
https://www.att.com/att/aarp/
Which contradicts the fine print on the same page:
https://www.att.com/att/aarp/
That's a little contradictory....
I'm not sure I've ever seen a discount on the lines. @lizdance40 you have this discount, you just get the 10% on the plan right?

@Gary L That advertisement is wrong. Really wrong, I will message Support.
@RJGoodwin The discount is correctly applied, you get $4 off your $40 shared data plan.
On the old unlimited plan I think the discount was off the $60 plan charge.
I get $13 off my $130 data plan.
The data plan is always attached to a line, the main line on the account. So my line charges are $130, less $13. Plus line fee $40-$25 l plus tax and fees of $4.50 +/-
$117 + $15 + $4.50 = $136.50.
All the other lines total $19.50. ($15 + $4.50)

Go here https://www.att.com/att/aarp/ to the AARP page, click BUY ONLINE, log into AARP and then it'll pass you over to AT&T and login there and it should hook you up, that's the easiers way, it should kick in one or two bills. Even before that you should start seeing the AARP discount at the top of your page when you log into AT&T from a desktop.

So did you ever get any reply from support on the 10% AARP discount add. Just curious if they ever changed the way the add reads.
