upgrade from 1G to 5G

if I upgrade to 5G from current 1G and am not on a term contract will I then have a new contract? Will I be charged an activation fee for either of the 2 phones on the plan? If so what would these be? May I choose not to accept paperless billing/autopay and thus not get the discount of $10 per month? Does the $100 include the discount or will I then pay $110?

You are not on a service contract, ATT stopped doing service contracts over 2 years ago. Changing your plan does not start a contract and there are no activation fees unless you activate new lines. You do not have to do paperless billing or autopay. In your case, it doesn’t matter. I’m pretty sure there is no autopay discount on that plan.

In addition to what @sandblaster said, while there might not be activation fees, there might be an upgrade fee.
