"Unlimited Data Plan"

I have and pay for an Unlimited Data plan, how can I possibly go over an unlimited amount of data?  If it's limited, AT & T shouldn't be marketing the plan as an unlimited data plan, because obviously, it's limited.

So you have Unlimited Plus Enhanced but you got (what appears to be) an incorrect message about Mobile Share Advantage.

TWO questions:

  1. Are you experiencing any slowdowns?
  2. Do you have another line on your bill that might be on a separate Mobile Share Advantage plan?

If NO and NO, I wouldn't worry about it.

I get alerts that tell me I'm eligible for things that I'm not (upgrade your car hotspot to the latest iPhone) but I tend to not worry about them...

You can’t go over if you actually have an unlimited plan? Are you sure you do? What is the name of your plan?

You will not get charged overages.  You have 15 gigs of hotspot.  After you reach 22 gigs you may notice periods of repriotization.

You will be notified when you are near 2 gigs

What makes you think you are over?

There are limitations, and they are stated in the marketing materials.  If you connect other devices to the internet via your phone you are limited to 15GB via the mobile hotspot connection.

If you near 22GB total usage, you might get a warning that if you re in a congested area your plan may slow down after 22GB (this is "deprioritization" and it's been insignificant to me 99% of the time (this is also in the marketing materials).

I logged into my account tonight to pay my DIRECTV bill and I noticed I had
an alert message notification. So, I decided to check it out. Here's what
the message said:
You used 100% of your data
You won't have any overage charges. Your Mobile Share AdvantageSM plan
includes a feature that slows your data speeds to 128Kbps (2G speeds) if
you go over your monthly data limit.

I was a little surprised, knowing I had an unlimited data plan. It's nice
to know I won't be charged any additional fees. You must have some level
of clairvoyance, seeming to know some generalized specifics regarding my
data usage. No, I didn't read all the marketing materials but I was
advised, when I bought my new phones, that I would encounter potential
data slow downs, after using 22 GBs if bandwidth was not available at the
time I was requesting it.

I will have to say, my AT & T service has been very good. I have no
complaints about the service. My concern is about playing loose with
language, and I don't think it's just AT & T that's been playing loose with
the word "unlimited." If the plan states that a subscriber has unlimited
data, then that's what it should be. I think it would be more appropriate
for AT &T to inform me that may network throughput was going to be slowed
down due to my high usage rather than informing me I've used all my data.

You might want to double check your plan again. Mobile Share Advantage is not unlimited and not the same plan as what you said you had. Either your plan got changed or that alert you got was bogus.

Um.   Which plan do you have?  You said unlimited plus enhanced, but your message says you have the Advantage plan.   The Advantage plan is NOT unlimited.  It’s a capped plan.  Once you use up the data, it slows to a crawl.

We have no ESP, but we know the plans ATT sold.

Your bill has your plan name.  Seems it’s not the plan you thought you had.

Here's what my plan says, I got this right off the AT & T website, plus
it's also printed on my paper bill:
MY PLAN
*Unlimited*

AT&T Unlimited Plus Enhanced Multi Line

Has your data been slowed to an unusable speed?

If so, there is something wrong and you need to find out why your plan is different from the one you are paying for. Start by calling tech support.

If not, the alert was some sort of glitch and you should ignore it.
