To view the actual content of the text messages, this is possible. With his permission, AT&T Messages Backup and Sync will allow you to view texts online. Please keep in mind, a temporary PIN is sent to the phone in order to access it each time for security purposes.
If you’d like to take a look at text/call/data information such as dates and timestamps, this is available to view online. Once logged in, please follow these steps:
1. Hover over MyAT&T tab > click on Billing, Usage, Payments subtab
2. Click on the Usage tab
3. Scroll to desired device and click on View Usage Details
4. A window will appear with your records which can be changed by billing period

Probably not. You can if he is subscribed to ATT Messages and you have access to his account, otherwise no.
