I just received the same message on my cell phone at 3:30am this morning. Totally woke me out of my sleep! What is this for? I haven’t requested anything through AT&T lately.

I received a similar message yesterday... It said:

att.net: free message:  Please use this 4-digit code to complete your mobile.validation:  XXXX.  This is a single use code.

From:  277361

It was in all red background.   Occurred the same time I was receiving Norton alerts "compromised WIFI change your user name password"  This only shows on the phone.

I also received a  4 digit validation code without any reason or communication from AT & T. Is there an explanation for this?

I received this text this morning as well. My email and bank account was hacked shortly thereafter. I called ATT to make sure that no one was trying to add phone on my account and they said there was not any issues.

I just got this too. There should be something like a 1-try-every-3 minutes-per-account limit on how often someone can try whatever it is they're trying -- otherwise they could just brute-force it with random numbers. Cindy's experience above indicates such rate limiting is not being done. And it should be much more than 4 digits. That's an extremely small range to guess! AT&T: FIX THIS!

Looks like it's still going on.

I just got the same message as detailed above, and it sure seems like a phishing scam.

Reset all passwords etc.

No bueno

I just got this same message! What is going on? I've changed my password and passcode for AT&T, now I need to go and change all the passwords for my other accounts, just to be on the safe side.
