Unlock and Early termination fee

Hello,

I bought a second hand iphone 6.

The iphone is under AT&T and i want to unlock it.

When i go the device unlock portal i have the message below :

This device isn’t eligible to be unlocked now because it’s still under contract.
To review the contract log in to your account
To pay the early termination fee and unlock the device, call 800.331.0500 or dial 611 from your AT&T wireless phone. You can submit a new request 24 hours after making the payment.

The problem is that i don't have the account of the previous owner.

When i click "early termination fee" link i have error 404 page not found

What can i do to know early termination fee ?

Thanks a lot

Hello Community,

Although this is an older thread, we noticed it is still visited quite a bit and wanted to provide some updated information.

We did have an outage for a few days on the Unlock Portal between 2/27 and 3/3.  If your issue occured at this time, please resubmit your request.  To get answers to all of your unlock questions, please take a look at our Device Unlock overview page.  You can also access the form directly if you are ready to submit.  Lastly, if you've already submitted your unlock request, and are looking for a status up, you can check that too!

If you still have questions or an issue, please send us a Private Message so we can assist.

Let us know if you need further assistance. We are here to help!

No, it is not possible for you to pay the termination fee. It is quite possible the original owner just switched to a different phone and has no desire to terminate their service.

Since you bought it from an individual, you would have to contact them and get them to pay their ETF on the account.   Since they sold the phone, I am guessing that they have either paid it, or don't intend to pay it at all.  You are totally at their mercy on this one though since they had a signed service agreement/contract with AT&T.

Since the iPhone 6 was released in Sept. 2014,  you can be sure that the phone would have no less than 3 months left on the contract, but could have as much as 19 months left, because the phone couldn't have been purchased before 09/2014, and the 2 year contracts were no longer available after early this year, so if it is newer than 5 months old, it wouldn't have a service contract.  That is about as good as you can get without working with the original owner who signed the contract with AT&T.

Or just sold their iPhone 6 and got another phone and have no desire to terminate their service.

Not until the contract expires.
