Transfer Old Phone # to new phone acct with different #

My stepson, a phone user on my family account, while TDY in Western US with the AF dropped his phone into a lake and it died.  He went to ATT store, purchased new phone and opened new account with a new phone number.  Now he wants the old phone # transferred to his new account.  HOW can this be accomplished?

Welcome to the Community Forums, I am very pleased to make your acquaintance.  This is a great question about moving the phone number for your stepson, and I would be happy to help.

 

We have a process called a Transfer of Billing Responsibility, where a phone line can be removed from one account and placed on a completely separate one.   This can be started by visiting the online portal, and he will want to select Request a transfer from another person to get started.

 

The first bit of information requested will be for your account, and then below it will ask for his account details.  He will be guided through making the request until it is ready for the second part of the process.  You will receive notification when the request is pending.
