Rollover date balance carry-over
I am considering decreasing my data plan from 20gigs to 15 gigs - Will my 6 gig rollover data balance carry over to the new data plan?

No. If you change data plans you lose your rollover.

So it works exactly as they describe it...
They used to have zero rollover, now they have it for one month at no extra cost. That's a bonus, not a ripoff!

Be sure to check ALL the details before changing your plan.
I think that 15GB plan is less per more for the plan BUT I bet the monthly line costs on the 20GB plan are $15 a month per line while the 15GB plan is $20 a month PER LINE. If you have a few lines, it could cost you more for less data.
You didn't give plan names or details so it's hard to know for sure...

No carrier offers perpetual rollover data.
FYI with 5 teens, you must have 6 or 7 lines and a big data bucket. Unless you have a HUGE employee discount, you are probably paying more for a limited data plan.

You pay for data that you can use for the period your carrier specifies. If you signed up to pay for a data plan that could only be used January 6 through March 3, then that's the period of time you get to use it, no matter what you think you "should get to" do.
You signed up for a data plan that gives you a certain amount of data each month, and the unused data will carry over until the end of the next month, if you need it. You are getting exactly what you agreed to receive.

That would be awesome if it worked that way. But that's not the plan that you or I signed up for...
It's pretty clear on the page:
https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/rollover-data.html
Obviously, everyone wishes it were longer. But that's not the plan we signed up for...

The current unlimited plan does not require TV service, each line gets 22 gigs before repriority and it's a lot cheaper. Check the link and do the math.
$145 for first 2 lines, $20 for each additional line.
Plan is $10 more than the 16 gig plan, with no employee discount, but $25 discount off TV
It's only 2 months old, so you haven't been on this plan.

A plan like that would cost a lot more. They factor in that people aren't going to use all their data every month when calculating costs.
You're buying in bulk and saving. If you wanted to buy data that didn't expire, they'd probably charge you over $200 for a 16 GB plan PER MONTH. And then at some point you're going to have too much data in your rollover and complain that you paid even more for it because it's just building up.
It'd be cheaper to sign up for an unlimited plan than paying that much more. Unlimited plus might be cheaper for you right now anyways, sounds like you have a lot of lines. And the kids would enjoy the tethering/hotspot of rlaptops/tablets and the free HBO.

We pay for a bucket of data each month. Period. Rollover is a free perk
Do you watch all the TV channels you pay for? Use up all your home internet data?
Me either.
Like I wrote, nobody rolls over perpetually.

ATT has no contracts. Changing plans adds no obligation. Only buying phones does.
