Repeated SMS messages from 74611888

The past few days I've received texts from 74611888 saying:

AT&T msg: Use this one-time verification code to complete sign-in: 568262  We'll never call, email, or text you for this code.

and

<#> AT&T Free Message: Your temporary PIN is 799712

 IOpMWSEeQxt

I doubt these are actually from AT&T because I haven't initiated anything that would trigger such a response.

I tried reporting these to SPAM but the source isn't a phone number or a valid short code. Where can we report these?

Thanks!

Re: Repeated SMS messages from 74611888

We were having this same issue and tracked it down to the AT&T mobile security app they were touting that would help eliminate telemarketers. The app was asking for a pin number. Just started in the last week or so fo us. I asked the app to generate a new pin and entered it and it still won't authenticate. The issue is not spam as AT&T staff keeps telling everyone. I spoke with their fraud dept and she kept telling me it was spam and to delete it or ignore it. The issue is with that app. If you have it, delete it and problem solved. The app doesn't do anything anyway.

Re: Repeated SMS messages from 74611888

Thank you @rocmartin2003 for pinpointing this! That’s exactly what was causing it. For some reason I was logged out of the Mobile Security app (maybe after an app update). I opened the app, entered the pin that was sent and the messages stopped. I suspected the messages weren’t spam since they came from the same short code as authentic AT&T pins I’ve received when logging into myAT&T.

Re: Repeated SMS messages from 74611888

Thanks so much @rocmartin2003.

Entering the PIN on the Mobile Security App worked for me. So glad to not be receiving these text messages.

What a horribly communicated verification step and vague text message—no wonder there is so much confusion.

How do you block it?? I’ve had enough of them and reporting it to ‘7726’ hasn’t stopped them.

Re: Repeated SMS messages from 74611888

What app is it? I returned from being overseas on Friday and have been receiving these messages 3-4 times a day, since. I am at the point to where I am going to walk I to AT&T with the hope they can stop it.

Re: Repeated SMS messages from 74611888

the App that was driving me nuts was "MobileSecurity" from ATT.

it had been banging away at trying to log-in at random intervals resulting, apparently, in these seemingly unsolicited "temporary PIN' messages.

i hope your solution is as easy as mine (appears to be ... so far); launching MobileSecurity and seeing that it needs you to request a temporary PIN.  one (last i hope) message later, and i hope to never see these messages again.

Re: Repeated SMS messages from 74611888

All,

We have confirmed that @rocmartin2003 is correct - this it is a known issue for customers on Mobile Security version 3.3.1 for iOS.

The workaround is to delete the app and, if you would like to keep using the Mobile Security App, go to the Apple App Store to download the latest version: 4.0.2. When downloading the Mobile Security App, make sure you are downloading version 4.0.2, rather than an earlier version. This should fix this issue.

Thanks,

Re: Repeated SMS messages from 74611888

i agree that it's a solved issue.  however, i have had things fixed and working with the existing version 3.3.1.  all it required was a positive authorisation request by me for (yet another) "Temporary PIN"; this time legitimately requested.

i will, however, get the latest version, regardless.

Thanks for everyone's assistance.  the "unsolicited" messages have stopped as of 6 June!
