How do I activate my old iPhone 6s for my mother?

My mother has a flip phone. I would like to give her my old iPhone 6s. How do I do that?

Hello @Raegan01

Thanks for the post.

Before you give Mom her first iPhone, we suggest removing your personal information, and erasing the iPhone 6s. Before you're able to set it up for her, she will need her own Apple IDrescue email address, Nano-SIM, along with an updated data package.

On the iPhone 6s:

  • Tap Settings > iCloud > Sign Out. Tap Sign Out again > Delete from My iPhone 6s and enter your Apple ID password.
  • Go back to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple Id > Sign Out.
  • Go back to Settings > tap General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings. If Find My iPhone is turned on, you may need to enter your Apple ID and password.
    • If asked for your device passcode or Restrictions passcode, enter it.
    • Tap Erase iPhone 6s

Both iPhone 6s, and the AT&T FLIP 2 use Nano-SIMs. Ensure your mom has a Nano-SIM then:

  • Power off the iPhone 6s.
  • Use a paperclip to pop-out the sim card try from your iPhone 6s and insert her Nano-SIM.
  • Power the device on.
  • Follow the steps to set the iPhone up using her newly created Apple ID.

Once you have finished setting the iPhone up for her please post back to let us know.
