Keep cellphone number while abroad

I will be out of the country for the next 12 to 18 months? How can I keep the phone number, freeze the account and re-activate it when I come back? I have had the same number for 23 years and don`t want to loose it.

Assuming you don't have any installment plans or an older plan you want to keep, I'd port the number to Google Voice to cancel the line with AT&T. When you're ready, port the line back to AT&T.

Greetings @Luishc,

We want to wish you a safe travel there and while you're living there as well.

To answer your question you can suspend wireless service or block a device at the link provided. Please keep in mind you will still be charged but not quite as much. You'll still be able to keep the same phone number while over there.

Let us know if this answered your question and if you have anymore concerns.

@kttom2   The link to information works fine.

Suspension does not stop billing.
you can suspend a lost or stolen device in your online account.  Login and manage your device.
