How to transfer a line from one account to another

I am trying to find out some information about transferring a line to my account.  My boyfriend is currently on a plan with his cousin.  She is telling him their bill is a lot higher than what it actually is and asking him for money every other week for his line.  He is paying almost 3 times what he should be.  He wants to transfer his line to my account.  The plan he shares with her and my plan are both with AT&T.  What she is doing is getting completely out of hand and she is just using the money to buy herself new phones all the time.  What all would it take to transfer the line and how much would is cost?

I am hoping that since both accounts are with AT&T, it shouldn't be too much of an issue and there won't be too many fees attached to it.

Absolutely correct. Just a side note: While the website option is enticing, doing a ToBR over the phone is a fair bit easier. The representatives you would speak to (if you choose to call in) would also have to speak to the person you are transferring over.

Either way, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Smiley Happy

Hi there @LilRed1105

We’d be happy to help transfer your boyfriend’s line across to your account! There are two steps to completing a Transfer of Billing Responsibility:

  1. The Original account holder (OAH) must provide authorization for the change.
  2. The Receiving account holder (RAH) accepts responsibility.

For more information on completing a ToBR and the requirements, expectations involved, please visit our eSupport article - Transfer billing responsibility for your wireless service

I hope this helps!

Hi there! @LilRed1105 thanks for posting your question. To move your line to another account, you can do a transfer of billing responsibility. I would recommend taking a look at this easy to follow video that will walk you through the process step by step.

If you still need assistance after watching the video, please visit our walkthrough to Transfer Billing Responsibility for more details. Once you have gone through these steps, if you need any additional guidance or support, please feel free to ask fellow community members by posting below; or, you can private message us by clicking here.

Thanks!

I actually just found the following two links to be very helpful.  They just don't state the cost of transfering the line from one account to another.

I have now found the answer to the cost of doing this.  Since both plans are with AT&T, the cost of transfering the line is $18 if you call and have them talk to you through it.  If you do everything online, the $18 fee is waved.

so  once the transfer of billing goes through, that will be its own account/bill correct? becuase i am going through and its saying something about,

"will have access to only your current plan, features, and monthly bill info for transferred lines. Historical account info will not be shared."

"I agree to the terms listed above, and, additionally, to share AT&T Next payment plan information with the recipient."

Hi @padave,

Once a transfer has been completed, the transferred line will no longer be a part of the original account.

Historical data regarding plan, features, and monthly bill information will no longer be available from the original account.

You will have access to current and future plan, features, and monthly bill information as it relates to the new account only.

I have been trying to do this.   I did some contract work for a friend and he offered to pay for my phone.  Now I need to transfer it back to my family plan.  He has called 4 times to have the line released, and was told that it was released.  However,  every time I have gone in to the AT&T store they tell me it is not released and he has to come in.  The problem is that I do not live in the same town anymore.  It has become an impossible situation.  It seems that one of us has to make a trip, so we both can be physically present to make this happen.   I cannot change my phone number, because I have accounts that I would have to notify. If I have to do that, I am thinking of just changing carriers!
