Hey, AT&T, why are you hiding my account number from me?
Are you so afraid of clients easily jumping from you to another carrier (account number is required for number porting)?
Why my online account pages don't have this information displayed anywhere? Why when I contact online support they "don't have access to prepaid accounts"? Why the help articles on your site give me a tel. number by dialing which I even don't have a single option that would allow me to request this information?
Pathetic.

NOPE! It's $20 for the line in addition to the $40. $60 > $45!

Again. You may include your landline or cable or even massage provided by ATT - it's your choice, but it's an extra.
The fact is fact: the plan itself is cheaper.
If I were requesting a service that I didn't buy - I would probably agree with you.
But I want just some basic information about my plan which normal providers simply display on customer profile page online without hurdling.

You cannot add a data plan without the $20 line. It's $60 for 3GB and one line.
If you think I'm wrong, the real question is "why are you paying $5 more?"
Again: Have you tried to pick option 4 and ask a human? (3rd time I'm suggesting and no response that I noticed).

I did. #4 gives you 'problems with your phone', 'problems with your line', 'problems with your data', 'other technical problems'
'Other' gives you 2 more questions (none of the above mentions accounts whatsoever - purely tech problems)
After that it is recommended to visit this beautiful help website or stay online
I stayed. And stayed. And stayed. After waiting for like 30 minutes i gave up. Will try tomorrow, hoping that a tech guy will not say 'sry, it's not us. we are doing only tech stuff'
Don't get me wrong, I will eventually get this info. If anything I'll go to an AT&T office and demand it.
So as you can see my frustration and anger is not about it, but about the point of my original question - why this information is hidden from me? why getting it requires such a quest?
Is it someone's SSO number? Or maybe a nuclear missile launch code?

@hexus80
Call 611 and say only "help" or hit the 0
Postpaid in more expensive for single lines.
Prepaid is single line and inclusive of your line fee. Postpaid is ala carte, data plan is priced separate and each phone must be added at a $20 charge.
So 3 gigs with one line is $60, with 2 lines $80, with 4 lines $120 etc.
As some point a shared postpaid plan is cheaper if there are multiple lines.
@Gary L The last time I called (keep in mind I'm postpaid) I was ready to scream. The phone tree is not well designed and seems purposely useless unless you have called for the usual reasons. Really need a 'push 9' for other or '0 for a human'.

Disregarding on that, thanks for the tip on the 0 menu option (it's not mentioned on the menu - why...). Will try it tomorrow.

They do charge taxes/line fees on the postpaid plans, so it'll be more than $80.
If you don't have a work discount that applies (you can get those with postpaid) towards the plan (not the lines) you can join AARP and get 10% off the plan which is $4 a month, plus anything else AARP gets you.
Postpaid gets you Wifi Calling, VoLTE and HD calling if your phone supports it with AT&T.
Let us know how that works, postpaid has voice interaction so I never push any numbers! I probably just ask for operator so "0" probably works.

Ok, re 0: it doesn't work in the main menu, but it does work in a submenu
For those who are looking for the solution after me:
- Call 611
- Select 1 ("Balance and payments")
- Ignore the fact there's no option for 0 mentioned, just press it
- Ask for your account number
And yes, I still believe this information must be in account profile online and getting it like that is unnecessary over-complication.
