Family Plan problem

I am the account holder on my family plan, however I just paid off my device and have unlocked my phone through AT&T. I want to sell my phone to a friend. Would my family plan stay open with the rest of my family members still having access to their phone service or would me selling my phone cause the rest of the plan problems as I'm the account holder. I plan to buy a new phone and put it on the family plan but not for a few weeks.

You can do whatever you want with the phone as long as you don't cancel service on that number. If you do cancel service on your line, you will impact the entire family plan but normally all they do is make a different number on the plan the "primary" number.

Thanks for your response! So if I sell the phone but don't cancel my number
the rest of the members on my family plan will be fine?

Yes. Since you are not cancelling the line, make sure to remove the SIM card before you sell the phone. When you get a new phone, just insert that SIM card.
