If you already own a cellular iPad, just contact ATT and order a SIM card for it. You can call, or go to an att store. You will be charged an activation fee of $20/25 for BYOD and $20 line fee per month.

FYI, If you haven't changed to the new unlimited plans that came out this you might want to consider. You wouldn't need to add if the iPad is one of the cell phone users you can now tether up to 10GB per phone.
Or you can add it to the unlimited plan for $20 (instead of $40) and get a $25 discount for the DirecTV AND free HBO.
