military cancellation but want to port number to different carrier

So we are moving with military orders to a new state where service is not great. we have been approved for military cancellation of our contract.

BUT

we want to port our numbers to sprint who has coverage in the new state.

we have been going around and around with att customer service about them waiving the ETF for us to port the number.

They state that they can not let us port the number out without activiating the ETF!!!!

I am so frustrated that they can not waive the fee!

does anyone know who to talk to about  getting the ETF fee waived so we can port our number and be able to keep in touch with family?

Thank you

Did ATT say that they would let you cancel without an ETF, due to you being stationed somewhere else? The ETF is prob assigned/associated with that those phones IMEI's; that's prob why there( the system too) having a hard time removing them(if they agree to remove them in the first place). ATT's system is probably automatically set to detect if a phones IMEI is in, or out of contract with them. Best thing to do is to start up service with Verizon, and then try to port those numbers over(before actual cancellation of services). Good luck, because you WILL get the run-a rounds whenever it comes to situations like this.
