Hi guys

Just my 2 cents.  I know it sucks waiting for updates that other carriers already have.  These updates have to go through testing by the carriers.  Do we forget about DROID Bionic owners who promised ICS release and they got almost a year later?  Who knows what goes into the decisions of what devices receive what updates and when and how?  I'm sure part of it is a popularity contest but even then Android device updates don't always behave the same on all devices and would ruin experience for users.  I work for a carrier(not ATAT). We get some of the same complaints about lack of updates. So lets wait til end of September and see what happens.  Its not like my 920 isn't working besides for all we know there might be some real bugs in those other devices, we've seen some reported for our devices with the gdr2 update...

I think if there were any real issues on those other devices we would've heard about it.

The fact is, this update has gone pretty smoothly - for everyone who has gotten it.

I like the other suggestion - the phone is our property, let US decide when/whether to install the update. I do not believe for a second that there is an issue that would affect service. More than likely, AT&T is making changes that many don't even want.

No update. I was told we would not see GDR2 until 6 month after the last update. At the end of this month it will be 6 month since the last update; so I think it will be available at the end of the month. Then again AT&T don't care about keeping its customer happy thats why the have these contracts and try to force every one on them; once they have you sign on the dotted line they dont care if you are satsfied with service or not. I think Microsoft and Nokia should take the update of software from the Carrier and send them out directly to the customers. Tired of Carrier's playing games.

All you need to do is go to the Nokia support forum and you'll see that people are having issues with GDR2 and Amber updates.  I can remember several models being mentioned, 1020, 920, and some 800 series phone.

I don't mind waiting a little longer (end of September is only two weeks away) if this "testing"

Just hope AT&T doesn't decide to go the way of Telstra and Vodafone, and skip GDR2 altogether to wait for GDR3.

That's only on the HTC 8x though.

Yet another failure with Windows Phone from this carrier. I went thorugh this same issue with my Samsung Focus and the Mango update. AT&T flatly skipped an update cycle with that phone and WP7, then took forever to release teh follow up update. I was already upset that AT&T is removing data sense from this (Amber) WP8 update. Without explanation, the only reason they would do that is to prevent consumers from avoiding overage charges,

Quite honesty screw AT&T, I am under contract but calling today to cancel my DSL with them. A mostly meaningless, but personally symbolic gesture. Wirelss will be soon behind with this level of product support.

Shame on me, because they have now fooled me twice with their "premier carier" windows phone balogna.

Sure, there are always going to be SOME problems....there are people with issues even without updates. It's simply not true to assert that GDR2 has had widespread issues. There are many (by far the majority) people that have had no issues at all.

The messed up part about having to wait for this update is that I bought my daughter a Lumia 520 2 weeks ago and it has GDR2+Amber. So a low end $100 go phone has a more current version of WP8 the Lumia 920. The 925 and 1020 also run the more current version of WP8. So what is the hold up with releasing the update for the 820 and 920? The only thing I can think of would be because they like aggravating there user base. To the Moderator that suggested we use methods not covered under warranty should understand that one should not have to risk bricking there phone using unsupported methods. Obviously we are here because we want the updates and don’t want to violate any EULA or Warranty to get them.

The 520, 925, and 1020 shipped with GDR2+Amber from Nokia.

That's why they're running GDR2 & Amber.

And (while I am not a mod) I didn't suggest anyone use unsupported methods. I only stated that if you must have it right now, today, and not whenever it finally does release, you know what your options are.

I can't believe I'm jealous of iPhone users, but I can't believe they live in a world where they can get an OS update on the actual day it's released by the manufacturer! Just imagine if AT&T held that up for no good reason, as they are GDR2/Amber.  Just echoing what others have said that Nokia/Microsoft should release updates independent of carriers to improve customer satisfaction with their devices.

If we lived in a world where Microsoft had 40% of the smartphone market, and Apple had 3%, my guess is you'd be getting your updates directly from Microsoft.

That would be a nice world Smiley Happy

I am out of the country in Kenya and today I got my IOS7 OTA update effortlessly on my AT&T Iphone. Unfortunately  been waiting for GDR2 update for almost a month now for my Lumia 920. Incidentally even in small countries like Kenya the DGR2 is already available to the windows phone 8 owners. What's up AT&T?

Note how they always have Iphone updates ready in a flash. So yes, it can be done. Obviously, WP are not a high enough priority for them. They're too busy appeasing Iphone users.

Youd think that time after time of update delays, that something would be done to fix the process. Make it smoother and get it done in a timely manner. But no. They just tell us to wait.

And the worst part about all of it,  is that we will end up getting a gimp verson of Amber. No Data Sense. I am officially done with ATT once my contract is up, which I believe is soon. Then they can kiss the behinds of Iphone owners all they want, for all I care. Im done with ATT.

I guess we know where ATT's real priorities are....  iphones.  Appease the masses and let the rest deal with having to wait.

Not that I don't agree with you, but....then what?   Verizon?  T-Mobile?  Sprint?   All mortgaged their wives and kids to get the iPhone.  Where ever you move...you will be faced with iPhone.  Unless you move to Europe, where the iPhone is not so much on a pedestal as here.

If you do move, send up a post card !!

Here is something I don’t understand.  The Lumia 925 is out and has amber on it. Its really not all that different from the 920 so why is there no update the Lumia 920 users? I get it they want you to buy a 925 but if a user isn't up for an upgrade then why not just give them the update?

If they make the phone you have better, you're less likely to buy a new one and trap yourself in another contract.  Don't worry if you're still in a contract - they'll help you out to extend your contract and get you that new device with the current software.

It will be interesting to see how long they string out the new 1020 and 925 owners when GDR3 is already running on every other carriers' phones and at&t's latest top windows phone.

They don't comment because they modify the update to allow illegal intrusion on your phone. There's no need to let it not be added through a download from nokia

So every AT&T twitter post, Facebook post, or forum page is littered with message after message regarding them as having poor customer service or no care at all for their members. Then they hold back an update for a "flagship" phone for people that are most likely ineligible for upgrading at this time. Then they ignore the next flood of posts, negative and positive, pleading for the release of this software or at least a tentative date (not nebulous period,) and still have the nerve, the audacity, the sheer disrespect for their paying customers to tweet "Don't like to wait?" What the!? Are you kidding me? What kind of company can exist as such an ignorant, arrogant, soulless husk of a human organization that operates so blindly in the field that they helped invent as this? What empty, heartless fools manage this burning pyre of impudent filth. I was a little annoyed at first with having to wait, but this is just insulting. Let's not mention the 9/11 Facebook debacle. Your treatment of your loyal customers is making me sick. I've been with AT&T/Cingular for 13 years and I am appalled at where this company has gone. IPhones come and go. You won't be able to rest on your Apple throne forever and the base of followers you have is going to simply walk away as your cardboard orange and blue castles crumble. Your deals will get better, your prices will be ludicrously low, and then you'll be bought be some upstart company and turned to second tier go phones only organization. Say hello to Westinghouse for me. It may be a ways off, but you're setting the groundwork today. 13 months and counting until I am free of this garbage. I have managed to talk my company into another service and they have offered a better support structure. They may be terrible too, but I haven't seen anything quite this ignorant. I'm disappointed in you AT&T. A once great American institution has fallen deep into the pit of worthlessness.

p.s. I would still appreciate the upgrade to GDR2 when it's available. Thanks :-)

Supposedly, EVERY Nokia phone that qualifies for the update will see it before the end of September.  This is the last full week of September.  Assuming AT&T lives up to their end of the bargain, (as per Nokia's promise), my gut feel is that they'll release it on Monday.  But given my OWN terrible experiences with AT&T and the Samsung Focus (all three models) NEVER receiving WP7.8, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if they miss the deadline.  IF they release it on 9/30/13...  I will remain an AT&T customer...  HOWEVER, if they don't, and instead ship it later than that, I will consider that my cue to jump ship and go to Verizon!  I'll be submitting a "help desk ticket" today simply to make my feelings known to AT&T as well as to excoriate them on their pathetic track record and lack of commitment and devotion to their customers!

As I noted in another post, an AT&T technical service representative told me yesterday he thought the update would be available by the end of OCTOBER. Not saying he's right, just relaying it as the latest info I have from an AT&T employee in the tech service area. The "testing" excuse is probably nonsense, in my view, given how all of the other carriers are progressing. The tech service rep told me they have to make sure it works on their network, but of course they already have updated phones on the network. My guess is that AT&T would rather sell you a new phone and doesn't really care whether you're mad about the slow update schedule as long as you keep paying your bill and stay with the company.

If AT&T comes out with the 920 updates on Monday, September 30 it tells me one thing. It was held for their own reasons and had nothing to do with testing.
