[ Edited ]

Re: Where's The GDR2 Update... Any Schedule?

Hi guys

Just my 2 cents.  I know it sucks waiting for updates that other carriers already have.  These updates have to go through testing by the carriers.  Do we forget about DROID Bionic owners who promised ICS release and they got almost a year later?  Who knows what goes into the decisions of what devices receive what updates and when and how?  I'm sure part of it is a popularity contest but even then Android device updates don't always behave the same on all devices and would ruin experience for users.  I work for a carrier(not ATAT). We get some of the same complaints about lack of updates. So lets wait til end of September and see what happens.  Its not like my 920 isn't working besides for all we know there might be some real bugs in those other devices, we've seen some reported for our devices with the gdr2 update...

Re: Where's The GDR2 Update... Any Schedule?

I think if there were any real issues on those other devices we would've heard about it.

The fact is, this update has gone pretty smoothly - for everyone who has gotten it.

I like the other suggestion - the phone is our property, let US decide when/whether to install the update. I do not believe for a second that there is an issue that would affect service. More than likely, AT&T is making changes that many don't even want.

Re: Where's The GDR2 Update... Any Schedule?

No update. I was told we would not see GDR2 until 6 month after the last update. At the end of this month it will be 6 month since the last update; so I think it will be available at the end of the month. Then again AT&T don't care about keeping its customer happy thats why the have these contracts and try to force every one on them; once they have you sign on the dotted line they dont care if you are satsfied with service or not. I think Microsoft and Nokia should take the update of software from the Carrier and send them out directly to the customers. Tired of Carrier's playing games.

All you need to do is go to the Nokia support forum and you'll see that people are having issues with GDR2 and Amber updates.  I can remember several models being mentioned, 1020, 920, and some 800 series phone.

I don't mind waiting a little longer (end of September is only two weeks away) if this "testing"

Just hope AT&T doesn't decide to go the way of Telstra and Vodafone, and skip GDR2 altogether to wait for GDR3.

That's only on the HTC 8x though.

Yet another failure with Windows Phone from this carrier. I went thorugh this same issue with my Samsung Focus and the Mango update. AT&T flatly skipped an update cycle with that phone and WP7, then took forever to release teh follow up update. I was already upset that AT&T is removing data sense from this (Amber) WP8 update. Without explanation, the only reason they would do that is to prevent consumers from avoiding overage charges,

Quite honesty screw AT&T, I am under contract but calling today to cancel my DSL with them. A mostly meaningless, but personally symbolic gesture. Wirelss will be soon behind with this level of product support.

Shame on me, because they have now fooled me twice with their "premier carier" windows phone balogna.

Re: Where's The GDR2 Update... Any Schedule?

Sure, there are always going to be SOME problems....there are people with issues even without updates. It's simply not true to assert that GDR2 has had widespread issues. There are many (by far the majority) people that have had no issues at all.

The messed up part about having to wait for this update is that I bought my daughter a Lumia 520 2 weeks ago and it has GDR2+Amber. So a low end $100 go phone has a more current version of WP8 the Lumia 920. The 925 and 1020 also run the more current version of WP8. So what is the hold up with releasing the update for the 820 and 920? The only thing I can think of would be because they like aggravating there user base. To the Moderator that suggested we use methods not covered under warranty should understand that one should not have to risk bricking there phone using unsupported methods. Obviously we are here because we want the updates and don’t want to violate any EULA or Warranty to get them.

The 520, 925, and 1020 shipped with GDR2+Amber from Nokia.

That's why they're running GDR2 & Amber.

And (while I am not a mod) I didn't suggest anyone use unsupported methods. I only stated that if you must have it right now, today, and not whenever it finally does release, you know what your options are.

I can't believe I'm jealous of iPhone users, but I can't believe they live in a world where they can get an OS update on the actual day it's released by the manufacturer! Just imagine if AT&T held that up for no good reason, as they are GDR2/Amber.  Just echoing what others have said that Nokia/Microsoft should release updates independent of carriers to improve customer satisfaction with their devices.

If we lived in a world where Microsoft had 40% of the smartphone market, and Apple had 3%, my guess is you'd be getting your updates directly from Microsoft.

That would be a nice world Smiley Happy
