Phone not ringing to notify me of incoming calls?

Phone not ringing to notify me of incoming calls?

Hello everyone.  I have a Samsung Rugby III and, a few times now, I have noticed an issue where my phone will notify me of a voice mail that was just left on the machine and my phone does not ring.  Does anyone know why this happens?  I was not on the phone and I was standing right next to the phone when it notified me of the voice mail.  The phone did not ring at all.  Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: Phone not ringing to notify me of incoming calls?

callie crk kucz,

It is possible to leave a voice mail for someone without actually calling them. I believe with ATT a person will call their own voice mail, then choose the option to leave a voice mail for another number.

callie.crk.kucz...I've also had that happen to me, when I had a weak signal. The phone would be sitting next to me, I'd be waiting for a call from my son on his way home from school and the next thing I know, he'd be calling the landline because he'd get my voicemail and my cell never rang! How was your signal at the time?? I have to keep my smartphone set at 2G to get a decent signal in my house.

The signal most of the time is really good.  I do not know what the signal was on the day this happened.  When I am at my house, which was where I was when this happened, I get really good coverage all over the house and outside.  When I am out my dad's house just down the street, I get one or two bars both inside and outside.

for ATT_James: That is interesting.  I did not know that one could call their own cell phone number and choose to leave a number for another person.  That may have been what happened in this situation.

Ok, it was a thought.

Happens to me all the time.  ALL THE TIIME.  Get the message alert and the phone is right in my hand or pocket so couldn't have missed the call ringer.  Very annoying.

Re: Phone not ringing to notify me of incoming calls?

This started happening to me in Jan or Feb of this year. I'd be sitting right next to the phone and it never rang, but I'd get  "new voice mail" notification. Or sometimes I'd get a "new voice mail" notification around midnight...informing me of a voice mail left 8 hours earlier! Service had been fine for many years up til then. AT&T replaced the SIM card; no help. They had me do a master reset on the phone, re-uploaded my routing profile and "re-booted my network"(?) all with no help. They replaced my LGA340 phone...no help. They told me I needed MicroCell, and now I'm having trouble with that (the Microcell tag keeps disappearing from my phone display screen and I have to keep power cycling my phone to get the microcell tag back). Microcell tech support ran a bunch of diagnostics and their only suggestion was to re-boot the Microcell. I've been told there is tower upgrade work underway in my area (Dayton, OH) to add 4G/LTE in the area. Supposedly that began right after the first of the year. I've been told the upgrade work will be done by the end of the summer, and that my old reliable service--or better--should be back then. I've been told the upgrade work will be done by the end of this month. I've been told there is NO upgrade work being done in my area. Obviously, I'm not getting good information from AT&T because all of this can't be right! I can put my phone down and watch the signal strength bounce from 3 bars to 2 to 1 to 3 to sometimes 4. This really doesn't seem right and it's certainly very aggravating!

Re: Phone not ringing to notify me of incoming calls?

I can't fathom how AT&T is still getting away with this. I personally experienced these issues for over 18 months.

For those of you still experiencing the problem, try these steps.

EVERYTIME you get a voicemail and the phone didn't ring.

1) Retrieve your voicemail and then follow the steps to get the time the voicemail was left.

2) Check your phone to see if it shows a missed call.

3) Call the person that left you the voicemail and ask them "how many times did it ring?". Did it go straight to voicemail?

4) If it rang and rang before it went to voicemail, then call 611, tell them what happened and give them the information. Call 611 everytime it happens.

5) Let your family, friends, and business associates know you're having issues and tell them

"If I don't answer the phone, PLEASE leave me a brief voicemail"

You may be suprised at how many calls you're really missing.

Hope this helps some folks in getting the issue resolved. Smiley Happy

Re: Phone not ringing to notify me of incoming calls?

Did you ever get this issue resolved? I am having the same problem: no missed calls notification so I have NO IDEA who has been calling me. AT&T keeps fumbling around to fix it and its been happening over a month now. I was told they were not aware of the issue and after reading these threads I will be dropping AT&T if they cannot fix this problem ASAP. If anyone else is having similar issues, please let me know if you were able to get it fixed. I have reset my network settings, restored my iphone as new, jumped through all the hoops and still having same problem.

Re: Phone not ringing to notify me of incoming calls?

I have the same problem as well.  I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4.  I checked my signal with LTE Discovery app when this happens.  LTE is -92 dBm and GSM is at -67 dBm.  HSPA+ is at -87 dBm

Incoming calls are not causing the phone to ring.  The caller says that they hear the ring tone, but the call eventually goes to my voicemail.  Then I get a voicemail notification of a call I supposedly missed, but doesn't show up as a missed call.

I used the at&t "Mark The Spot" app to report the issue each time.  I also called customer service and they found no problem.  My voicemail was reset and still the problem exists.

I'm really not getting a feeling of confidence in my device or the at&t network since this has happened multiple times to me now.

Has anybody else who has experienced this issue found a solution?

Re: Phone not ringing to notify me of incoming calls?

I had this issue where the phone did not ring; went straight to VM, when certain people tried to call me. The security setting on my phone is what cause it to happen. My setting were set to receive calls only from people in my phonebook. Check the security setting on the phone, may help.

Best wishes.
