I only use my phone for the internet and I've gone over my 2 g limit twice this month.
I think you mean "browsing typical webpages". What else would your data be used for, if not for "the internet".
But I agree, the current choices of data plans are not acceptable. Just a way for AT&T to charge its customers more, for overages.

Stop streaming audio/video. Turn off live wall papers. Check settings for email to see how often it is checking.
I have never gone over 2GB of data, may highest usage was last month at 1.5GB but I am normally in the 600-900mb range.
It is entirely possible to manage your data usage, but it requires some common sense and knowledge of the device you are using and how you use it.
