iphone3 gophone can't send email (have 10 mb data featue package)

No wifi available from here, and having trouble sending email via Iphone3 on GoPhone service with 10 MB data package - receive the following messages when I try to send email:

Could not activate cellular data network

You are not subscribed to a cellular data service

Cannot send Mail

The connection to the outgoing server ":smtp.aol.com " failed.

Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings>Mail

At&t SMTP Server is also listed under "Other SMTP Servers" which it says will try in succession if the primary (aol) fails

(Also problem with recieving-similar message)

problably because a Iphone is not supported nor authorized for a gophone service

apparently it is.  This phone is completely unaltered from its original state, never been hacked or unlocked and works fine to send texts or on wifi

As wingrider stated, the iPhone is not supported or authorized for use as a GoPhone.  How that got interpretted as "will not work" is mind boggling.

No one here can help you with using the iPhone on the GoPhone service.

Your options are:

  • Search google for solutions.
  • Use the iPhone as intended on the post paid service.

But, as you can see from your inability to use cellular data, at&t does not support the iPhone on the pre-paid plan.  Some things may work.  But the iPhone is not approved for use on at&t's pre-paid plans.

SMS messages don't count as cellular data and wifi use is off ATTs data network, so that's why those work. As stated above, you don't have a data plan. You have just been doing things that don't require one.

Re: iphone3 gophone can't send email (have 10 mb data featue package)

Considering all the recent posts about iPhone issues on go-phone plans, and the recent notices about iPhone tethering using un-supported means, it looks like ATT is cracking down on their long standing policies.

iPhone requires a special "iPhone's" data plan, which is not available for go phone accounts.

Has data ever worked on your prepaid iPhone? For example, using Safari or accessing iTunes or the App Store? Do all of the data applications fail?

While iPhones are not officially supported for prepaid GoPhone plans nor recommended, you indeed can use them but people do have trouble trying to access data services.
