iPhone is not able to turn on or connect to iTunes

My problem started when I tried to synch my iPhone and bring on some new apps. I got a message that the iPhone could not synch because of some error on the phone itself, and said I had to restore the phone using iTunes. Not a problem, I had a good backup on iTunes for it so I tried that, and it did not complete. Instead of having the picture of the USB cable and the iTunes button, all I get now is the black screen with a white apple and an empty progress thermometer bar under it. I cannot shut the phone off, turn it on, or get the button on the bottom to work. It just sits there and iTunes does not even recognize it as being plugged in.

 

What is going on? Is there a fix?

Sounds like a Hardware issue.  Call Apple directly and have them help you.  Try this link to start: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/
