Verizon Account Sold to AT&T - Help making changes

Recently, my family plan (I have the primary phone and my wife has the family plan phone.) was sold to ATT from Verizon; no choice of my own in this matter.  There are a few problems I am currently having:

  • My phone coverage with ATT does not work in the locations I need it to as I travel a great deal; I would like to cancel this phone and service.
  • My wifes phone is junk, she would like to upgrade to a 3GS refurb and have her number changed.

What do I need to do to make this happen?  I've heard a rumor that I can make these things happen without cost to me in the first 30 days of service.

Thank you for any help you can provide! Let me know if I can provide any more info.

Hello fellow transitioner!

Have you been transitioned yet? The time to order the AT&T phones has passed. So you should have your phones already. Once your AT&T phone is active you have 30 days to switch to another carrier (including Verizon) or cancel the AT&T service without an ETF (early termination fee). Good luck. I am switching back to Verizon myself soon.

A website you should be familiar with.

Correct. You are still in your initial 30-day buyer's remorse period. This period starts the day your service has been active. You can cancel your service with AT&T within the next few days (or weeks, depending on when you started) without paying an early termination fee. After that, you would have to return all purchased equipment, unless bought secondhand by yourself.
