Sierra Wireless AirCard 875 - what does 4 pin or 4 wire mean?

I'm trying to find a headset for my pc card and I can find a few that are reccomended from Sierra's website on amazon. I think I may have a 2.5 mm 4 pin headset, but I'm not sure how to tell if a headset pin is 4 pin or not, is it the number of seperated metal parts on the jack?

A second question is it possible to use my laptops built in microphone instead of a headset?

Thanks, Mark

You are correct in saying that the pin count refers to the metal segments, including the tip.  The sierra should work with any universal 2.5mm 4-pin headset (not nokia or samsung specific).

Good quick page about the pin-outs here;
