Saw an interesting statistic earlier this evening

Apple comprises about 4.5% of the mobile phone market, but takes in 51% of the profits in that market.

It has been this way for a while.  Mac sales are very similar.  Apple has a disproportionate share of the profits there too.

Not really all that surprising. Heck, when you buy an iPhone directly from the Apple Store, I suspect they not only get an equipment subsidy, they also get an additional $100 (maybe higher) for contract sign-up/renewal.
