So I got my new Galaxy S2 Skyrocket last week and I kept my grandfathered unlimited data plan. I see there's an option for a portable wi-fi spot... basically I wanted to test it out and see if my friend can connect to my phone acting as a wi-fi hotspot AND it doesn't work.
I called AT&T and they said I would have to give up my unlimited data plan at $30/mo and go to a 4GB plan at $45 to have that option - YEAH RIGHT!
Re: Portable Wi-Fi Spot not available on Skyrocket?
It only works if you have tethering on your account (it applies to all phones sold today). Unlimited and tethering can never go together. The reason is very simple: ppl will abuse it and make the already congested network even worse by using their phone as the home internet provider. No joking, some are already doing it (by hacking the restictions away) and they are using 20 to 30 GB a month. That's why AT&T now starts to throttle top 5% of the data hogs.
It's not just AT&T. Every other carriers are the same.
