Re: PPP Cingular login info

Rich, the login name and password (when it was/is used on the AT&T/Cingular network) are;

Login Name : isp@cingulargprs.com (can also try wap@cingulargprs.com)
Password : CINGULAR1

Other than that, if you are at all looking for init string information, here is an excerpt from the AT&T Device tutorial site (wireless.att.com/support)

SUBJECT: Create an Extra Initialization String in Windows 2000 and XP
Creating a extra modem initialization string
Using a modem initialization string
SYMPTOM: Error 734
Error 692
Modem / Tethering

Procedure

  1. Click Start.
  2. Select Control Panel.

  3. Double-click Phone and Modem.
NOTE: If the Localization properties have not already been set a box may pop up asking for an Area Code and phone number. Enter the local area code and click next. This step is necessary, but inconsequential to the modem initialization string.

  4. Click the Modem tab.

  5. Highlight the "Desired modem" and click Properties.

  6. Click on the Advanced tab.

  7. Add the following extra initialization command
    • New and existing AT&T wireless services customer
NOTE: The Context ID (CID) used in the initialization string should match the CID used in the phone number.  For example, the phone number for the Motorola and Samsung devices should be *99***3#.
      • For most devices:
        • AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","isp.cingular"
NOTE: This instructs the device to use CID "1", set the protocol as "IP" and use the APN "isp.cingular".
      • For Motorola and Samsung:
        • AT+CGDCONT=3,"IP","isp.cingular"
NOTE: This instructs the device to use CID "3", set the protocol as "IP" and use the APN "isp.cingular".
    • Former AT&T Wireless customers:
      • AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","proxy"
  8. Click OK.

  9. Attempt to connect.
  10. If still unable to connect and receiving Error: "734 or 692" the initialization string needs to be amended. Try the following variations:
    • New and existing AT&T wireless services customers
      • AT+CFUN=1;+CGDCONT=1,"IP","isp.cingular"
    • Former AT&T Wireless customer
      • AT+CFUN=1;+CGDCONT=1,"IP","proxy"
  11. If still unable to connect contact AT&T Customer Service for wireless customers for further troubleshooting.

Actually the username and password are no longer required and even if entered, correctly or incorrectly, will not generate an error.  Other than the proper drivers the init string is now all that is required to setup a DUN.

P.S.
Just as a note because Captain Mo brought it up, tethering via the wap.cingular APN is a violation of the TOS and can result in out-of-bucket data charges.
