No Service on iPhone 3gs

Hi everyone, I have a really big problem and could use some help. For about 2 weeks now my 3gs has been losing bars and going to no service like once every 30 minutes. Its not jailbroken or anything like that, its regular. I've looked on the internet and read every fix I could find (reseting network connections, switching 3g off, airplane mode) and none of them have worked. The apple store says I'm out of warranty so they can't do anything. Can anyone PLEASE help me!

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

I have been having the same issue over the last couple weeks.  I contacted ATT and we went through all the technical reboot and stuff as well as switching my sim card into my brothers iPhone to make sure it wasn't the card.  I was sitting next to him on his 3gs he had 5 bars and mine said no service or searching.  This is the only phone that I have and I cannot rely on it with 3 small children I worry if something happens I don't have service.  I also contacted apple and went through all tech support and reboots with them as well with no resolve.  I also recently had a remote started added to my car with control from my iphone and am dissappointed that I can't use it because of a lack of service.  I have been with ATT for 16 years and am not eligible for an upgrade until Feb 20 when they say I can get one for 199...but they are not willing to help me now.  I am very disappointed in the customer service I have received over the last several weeks.  I saw on the news today that Verizon may start to carry iphone service at the end of the month, I am considering making a switch since ATT does not seem to want to keep me as a customer.

Good luck and if you get resolution please keep me updated Smiley Happy

What you describe is a hardware issue with the iPhone.  All hardware issues related to the iPhone are handled by Apple.

Why exactly are you disappointed with AT&T?  What exactly are you expecting from AT&T that they are not providing?  If you are not eligible for an upgrade, you are not eligible.  You can still take advantage of the early upgrade and full price upgrades.

Sorry, but you need to be realistic and address your hardware issues with Apple if you are still under warranty.

At the very least, a visit to a Genius bar would allow you to determine if it is in fact a hardware issue.  If it is and you are no longer under warranty, Apple offers a $199 out of warranty replacement.

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

My 2-cents: Yesterday, January 10th, at around 3 pm, I noticed a 'no service' indication on my iPhone 4. I called AT&T and was able to get it to function properly after performing a network reset. He recommended changing the SIMM card. An hour later the phone again showed 'no service'.
At 7pm I got in my car and visited the local AT&T store. The lady installed a new SIMM card and the phone worked fine.
At 11pm I noticed another 'no service ' status. I called AT&T tech service, after working for some time we discovered that the same condition, 'no service' existed on my wife's phone. She is also on my AT&T plan.
There was just a little wrinkle with this whole situation: my wife's phone is an older Motorola Razor model. The AT&T Tech said he would escalate the problem to their network specialists.
As I type this, 4am, the still shows 'no service'.

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

could be an issue with 3G in the area, put your iPhone in 2G mode and see if it works

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

With all bars showing this morning, in 2G, i was able to complete one call, then all attempt failed again (top left shows: 5 bars AT&T E )
Will test with different tower later. Motorola Razer still not working will test phones in another cell / tower.

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

Both phones are working properly again. The problem was a damaged cell tower in my area.

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

I have been having the same problem (phone losing service for about 30mins-45mins then regaining service for a limited time and then no service again) since arriving in Newark,New Jersey this afternoon. Does anyone know of any tower problems in this area??

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

I've been having the same problem with my 3gs for days.  Half the time I have no service/"searching," which is bad enough, but several times in the past few days my phone shows that it has signal, but refuses to send text messages and won't receive calls. Yesterday, my partner called me and my phone not only never rang, but did not show a missed call in the call log.

This is inconvenient, to say the last.

Is this a network issue? Is AT&T aware of/working on this?

Have you called customer service to report the problem?

The only way they would be aware that you are having an issue is if you contact them.

We are all users here like yourself.

The AT&T employees that are here, are posting on their behalf, not as representatives of the company.

Maybe you should contact CS to report your problems and see if issues exist in your area.

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

Wow, I made a thread just yesterday about this. I'm having the same issues as peterwtie and others. I'm in Riverdale, MD (PG County). Whenever I enter riverdale, my phone becomes dead regarding the network. I leave the city and it works again.

My phone will work in riverdale for maybe 10 minutes then, with full bars showing and 3G, not be able to make calls or use data. Will go from no service to searching to repeat.

I'm 7 miles away from Riverdale right now, surely on another tower, and it's working perfectly now.

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

Could this be problem?

Its in 4.2.1

Network Controlled Fast Dormancy that helps a smartphone go quiet without going completely idle. The method keeps the iPhone in a limbo state that saves it from having to reconnect to the network, not only eliminating the flood of traffic from a reconnect but improving its battery life by limiting the necessary traffic.

Re: No Service on iPhone 3gs

I am having the same issue for past 5 days....If I am near an ATT center I get services..as soon as I drive away I lose it. No Service, severe battery drain, in and out of service. Like many of you been through the multiple trips to ATT and on phone w Customer service.  No one is familiar with this issue.  I've had multiple resets, network resets, SIM card, you name it.  No one knows. ATT says it Apple issue. Apple's website said no service is a provider issue. Who owns the issue? Disappointing. Have been a relatively happy customer until this.  Early network problems and drops seem to go away in recent months now this..
