New International Data Plans?
Edited by stufried on Aug 22, 2008 at 8:27:19 AM
Does anyone know anything about this?

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/08/04/verizon-atandt-retool-international-data-plans-still-heart-stopp/

Update. Here is the ATT link:

http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/affordable-world-packages.jsp#7

The one thing that gives me iPhone envy is the fact that iPhone users can turn this bolt-on on and off like a light switch, and other PDA users have to make a yearly commitment.

The iPhone easy on/off plan has been available almost a year now as I recall.  Maybe a bit less but certainly for a while.  The down side is that it's not available in every country where roaming is allowed.  It does however cover most of the popular ones.

Your link on the at&t website would lead me to concluded that a 12 month commitment might no longer be required for other PDA's as well.  That restriction seem reserved for the Blackberry.  T-Mobile has a similar plan for thier Blackberry service that does not require 12 months and can be turned on only when you need to travel.  They just at $19.99 per month for as long or little as you need it.

I'll call and relay what customer services says.  After Ottawa in September, I won't be in out of the country (to a discounted roaming country) for a couple of months and I might pull it.  It is tough for me.  I can see Canada from my office windows so my trips across that boarder are not exactly planned things.
