New Blackberry Pearl 9100 recharging issues

I just upgraded my wife's phone to the Blackberry Pearl 9100. Followed activation instructions, but phone will not recharge. I have tried different AC outlets and tried seveal computers to chagre via usb, still will not charge. what next?
