Does anyone have a clue when the Mango update will be released?

I'm extremely disappointed in the way that Windows Phone 7 has been going.  I was much happier with the Windows Mobile 5 and 6 versions.  It seems that innovation has been bled from the process.  There's lots of apps that go for literally "next to nothing" - but, I would rather have well-developed apps - and would rather pay good money to get something that's not literally TRASH!

For example, there's an App called, "my eye" - it looks really great.  Just one problem, there's X's to cancel adding something, even a trash can to delete things.  But, there don't seem to be checkmarks to show up to actually SAVE after attempting to add a new record.  If the checkmarks were present, I would have gladly paid $20 or $30 for the application.  So, for $1.99 US, there don't seem to be any checkmarks.  For the comprehensive looking abilities that the app's design implies, it would be something that I wouldn't have thought twice about paying 5-10X (or more) for a completed application, with checkmarks to click on, in order to finalize windows and saving records.  Whenever a record is being added, if one can't intuit how to finalize adding the record, then the app isn't worth much value to the consumer.   It can't be put to actual use.  Hey, they could have even put the infamous 3.5" diskette icon there, so that one would realize that there's a way to save a record (as something different than a checkmark).

FTS Mind is another glaring example.  They have all of these different icons, representing brains, automobiles, all kinds of cool things.  Come to find out, this was all "MARKETING" - you can't really have these icons inserted into your "mind map".  To me, this is blatant misrepresentation.  If they even threw a few reasonable icons into the software, with a notation that others would be forthcoming, I could accept that.  BUT, to show it in the advertising, then have ZERO capability to do so, seems incredibly misleading to me.

By the way, another mind mapping software, "InvulgoMindMapper", comes MUCH CLOSER to what I would expect for an application.  One can actually place numbers next to nodes, along with other meaningful labels.  Numbers, Plus, Minus, Danger, Mail, Phone, etc. - these make the InvulgoMindMapper a much better app than what FTS Mind actually is, even though it falls a little bit short of what FTS Mind "appears to be" - based upon the advertisements and splash screens.

One application comes farily close, though.  It's called, "Geek Wallet".  One is able to easily add records.  One can even add categories, too.  They have a "work-around" for sub-categories...it's called putting something resembling a prefix for the start of record ID's.  It's not perfect, but it's one of the few WP7 apps that I wouldn't hesitate to pay $10.00 US or more to purchase.

MD5 Converter (by AUDERO), is another one of those apps that seems to be incomplete.  The first line reads, "String", the second line reads, "MD5"; this is followed by 3 pushbuttons:  [Reset], [Encrypt/Decrypt], and [Contact Us].  The [Encrypt/Decrypt], with the 2 above lines, seems to indicate that one can readily take text, then the software would assign an MD5 hash value to it; then, that one could take an MD5 hash value, then get the corresponding text string represented by the MD5 hash value.

After looking at the development platform that's available for doing a "basic app", I can see why certain aspects appear to be lacking.  However, not having what would appear to be complete functionality, or functionality reasonably close to what's depicted in advertisements and splash screens, is something that has nothing to do with the people putting out the apps, not anything to do with the platform.

What I do hope can happen is that after Mango, or whatever other updates come about, that some more serious apps are released - even if they cost more money.  I really do miss, "AgendaOne" from my Windows Mobile 6 phone.  To have an app for Windows Phone 7 that performs the functions of it, is worth a good $30-$50 to me.  NOTHING in Windows Phone 7 seems to come even close.  How this exists in a newer O/S version is beyond me.  If Mango gets us there, or relatively close, then "bring it on".  If it doesn't even come close...stick with your Windows Mobile 6!

That was one of the longest non-answers I've ever read.

Yes, I'm hearing the same Sept 15th date. Also, I just checked my Zune PC software and an update was available, which I installed. Zune PC needs to be updated prior to the Mango update being installed, so it was there, but it didn't tell me that a Zune update was available until I asked it to look for updates, so I'm not sure if that is an indication or something or not, just that I'm ready for my Mango to arrive.

I'm running 7.0.7390.0. I've heard Mango will be out on 9/15; I've also heard 10/1. MS needs to be smart and handle the rollout with the vendors so it's smooth. It needs to be available for all WP7 around the same time. I personally think it will happen before the iPhone 5 arrives. MS needs good PR for this OS rollout.

AT&T promises Mango for existing Windows Phones

Chris Davies, SlashGear, Sep 12th 2011

AT&T has confirmed that its current line-up of Windows Phone 7 handsets will all get upgrades to 7.5 Mango sometime this fall, bringing the range in line with the three new models announced this morning. The HTC HD7S and HTC Surround, the LG Quantum and the Samsung Focus are all in line for an update, with AT&T promising to be “among the first carriers to start” the process. Meanwhile, AT&T also claims to sell more Windows Phone devices than any other US carrier.

Exactly how many devices that adds up to isn’t made clear, and with official sales stats from Microsoft still absent we remain in the dark as to exactly how much of an impact Windows Phone 7 has made on the market. WP7.5 Mango should help change that, however; as our technical preview showed, it’s a considerable improvement over the original iteration.

“Our customers love Windows Phones which is why we’ve sold more of them than anyone else” SVP of devices at AT&T Jeff Bradley boasts. The three new models – the Samsung Focus S and Samsung Focus Flash, along with the HTC Titan – are expected to go on sale sometime in Q4 2011.

Truely delighted with this news. A complete turn around from the debacle of the nodo update. I trust that everything will go smooth. This is the kind of service/support I expect from AT&T. If all goes well I will be purchasing a second or third generation Windows phone from AT&T when it's time for my next upgrade. Keep up the good work.

do we know if anything in the Mango update will help with some of the slider/hard keyboard issues (ala adding any additional use of the keyboard and not closing e-mails automatically when the slider is pulled out)?
