International text message issue

International text message issue

Hi,

I have been using international text message for more than eight months. Just recently, I cannot send my message to China or my friends cannot receive my message(there is no error reminder from my device to say that failure). I can just receive the messages from China. After my friends or parents sent me the message, they immediately received 'We have receive my testing message'. I am using iPhone 4 and the OS is up to date. I called the technical support of ATT and after resetting the problem is still the same. Please let me know if you guys can help me.

Thank you very much.

Unfortunately, the international messaging problems are the hardest to solve because each carrier tries to point at the other as the reason for failure. A few tips/notes:

  1. Make sure the Chinese carrier is on the supported list (select China from the country drop-down list).
  2. Do not use any foreign language characters in your SMS, use Latin only. In recent years AT&T has developed some Unicode idiosyncrasy.
  3. AT&T does not support delivery confirmation feature for text messages. When someone sends you a message, they'll be told it's delivered regardless of whether you actually receive it or not. Used to be the same for sending, I think now they switched to mostly not sending any reply back when you request delivery confirmaton.
  4. If nothing helps and even plain English messages do not go through, call CS, escalate, have them open an inter-carrier ticket — keep at it.

Good luck!

Re: International text message issue

Hey Kejiu,

You are right.

From around Oct, 1st, all the texts sent from my cell phone and my other 6 classmates (we have joined ATT unlimited talk and text package and enjoyed the international text to China friends for two months) cannot be received by my friends in China and my friends immediately received 'We have receive testing message' when they try to send message to us.

We have tried several cell phones to avoid the unnecessary cell phone problems causing the problem. The final result looks the root cause is on the carriers side.

It looks like the text message channle between ATT and China carriers (China mobile and China Unicom) or ATT SMS server have some problem .

Now what I can do is keeping calling the Customer Represent every day to check it. Hope some one could help us.

Thanks.

Re: International text message issue

Exactly same issue - started from Oct 10th, when I came back from China. After my friends in China send me a text, they receive the same "we have received a testing message" error. I can receive text from China - but my friends can not receive my outbound text message. My friends use China Mobile carrier. I use a iPhone here on ATT.

Went to the ATT store today, clueless rep just swapped a SIM for me - which did not solve the problem.

Re: International text message issue

Same as mine. After October 1st, I have exactly same problem as yours and my friends in China start to get an auto message "We Have Received Testing Message." One thing I test here is that my friend in Taiwan can receive my Chinese message but my friend in China cannot get any one. Sometimes my friend in China cannot even get my English message. I make many calls to AT&T for check and go to store to change SIM card, but nothing is helpful. I don't know why it works before, but fails now.

Re: International text message issue

I am starting to guess this may be caused by carieers in China.

Remember Oct 8 is when Nobel Price for Peace is awarded. Before Oct 8th, the Chinese government tried to prevent the Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded to Liu Xiao Bo - whom is still behind bar in China.

The same kind of block on text messaging also happend in the last few years - when there were incidents in Tibet or western China.

Re: International text message issue

I had the exactly same problem! I can always receive English and Chinese messages from China via iPhone 4 but I can't send any Chinese messages (English is still okay) to my friends in China anymore since Nov. 1st. Before Nov. 1st, both Chinese and English messages to China had been working. I have called AT&T for two weeks and finally got the answer from its high level support team. AT&T has a hanging ticket and is working on this problem now. The ticket number is TT000016329740. All of us please call AT&T every day to push them. Here is the message ATT sent to me:

------------------------------------------

Thank you for contacting AT&T about your wireless service. My name is Floralynn Brown and I am more than happy to assist you today with your inquiry regarding ticket number TT000016329740.

I understand that you curious about the resolution of one of our technical tickets. This is a second level technical support ticket that only our Technical Support Department has access to, so I contacted them for some additional information and it appears that more research is still needed and being done to investigate why text messages being sent to China in the Chinese language aren't going through. What my Technical Support Department recommends is that you call into customer service and ask to be transferred to our second level Technical Support Department and ask that they set up a commitment so that you can be notified by AT&T when there is a resolution to this ticket.

I hope this information has been helpful. We are here to assist you and appreciate having the opportunity to serve you.
