I need support for the HTC HD@ exclusively for T-Mobile service

I need to make sure this phone will automatically work when I enter a Barnes and Noble and turn on the Wi-Fi hotspot locator on my device. I had problems in Chick-Fil-A before because they need a log in and password setup and MAC ID. I think that is invasive and annoying. I hope Barnes and Noble won't put me through that crap to. I spend a lot of money in there and don't want to carry around a laptop just to use Wi-Fi when this phone connects to all wi-fi spots unless the above is the case, which is very bad for the consumer.
