Event notifications on Galaxy S II i777

I turned up Notification volume all the way and chose a Notifcation ringtone  - most of which are barely audible. When I create an event in Calendar, a ringtone other than the one I have chosen (triple checked it) sound very briefly and it's hardly at all noticeable. There doesn't seem to be an option to vibrate this phone when an event comes up.

This is an absolutely critical function that I need and I may have to return this if the results aren't satisfactory. The previous version of android had a fairly straightforward way of entering calendar events, with no need to take the extra steps to enable notification. Now the process is so convoluted, it's hardly worth it. The process was and still is very straightforward and easy on my 5 year old Palm Centro. I'm majorly bummed about this.

If this isn't clear, I REALLY need to have a ringtone for notification alerts similar to that of an incoming call - to repeatedly continue until I turn if off. I would also like to increase the volume further than is currently available.

This is really too bad. I can't get a clear answer *anywhere*. Even spent 50 minutes on the phone with Samsung rep who finally said that you can't do that. I downloaded a ringtone that would work, but how to get it to show up in the notification ringtone area. The rep - level 3 - sounded very unsure about a few issues. I used to do tech support and ran around the bush too a few times until I found the answer.

When I asked him about an ididosynracy on the phone, he laughed and said - "yeah, I know just what you mean. That's...that's just the way it's programmed."
