Converting from PrePaid to Contract

Hi,

I have a disabled adult son who lives in a group home.  He has been a loyal AT&T prepaid customer for 5+ years.  Under the terms of the prepaid plan, he can accrue his balance month to month, but he loses it when he terminates.  He has no credit and thus could not make a $500 deposit they want for a contract.  Is there no way for him to use his excess balance toward a contract plan and be approved by ATT for his good payment record?

That is a very good question and I'm honestly not sure how to answer it.
