Captivate Getting Laggy

Captivate Getting Laggy

Has anyone else noticed that their Captivate is getting laggy, or is it just mine? My phone is usually pretty quick but sometimes it doesn't respond as quick as it should. It seems to really freeze up when I have floods of text messages from different people coming in, and I can understand that. It takes a while for the phone to return back to normal after that, though. The keyboard is very slow to respond to my typing, too.

I have Android 2.2 on my phone as of now. I'm not sure if the Gingerbread update could help, when it's available...

Re: Captivate Getting Laggy

Captivate is notoriously known for laggy especially after you installed too many apps. There are plenty of lag fixes out there but you need to rememer properly roll them back before any ROM updates.

The root cause if (1) Android's inherent flaw on home screen laginess (only the super phone like GS2 can over come that) (2) Samsung's TouchWiz bloat and most importantly (3) Samsung's use of odd RFS file system on the phone. The various lag fixes are just trying to convert internal RFS partition into EXT2 or EXT4 file system. No, GingerBread won't make it go away (the GB ROM for Captivate has been leaked over 6 months ago).

The new GS2 no longer use the stupid RFS and use the standard EXT4 file system.

Re: Captivate Getting Laggy

Alright. Thanks.

I still enjoy using the phone on a daily basis (I prefer using it over my iPhone) and I will keep it until it dies. It just seems that the lagginess is getting somewhat worse and worse every month. I have especially noticed it tonight - that's why I created this thread.

Re: Captivate Getting Laggy

Without knowing which applications that you use most, do you occasionally clear out your application cache?

Also how is your internal app memory doing. Low, some room or just fine?
Probably from mobile, maybe. Smiley Happy

Re: Captivate Getting Laggy

I have LOTS of room left in internal storage space for applications. I don't clear my cache that often, if you think that would help any, Ann154?

Re: Captivate Getting Laggy

That sounds like you should be okay. You could be just dealing with the RFS file system foxbat121 mentioned.

Re: Captivate Getting Laggy

I seem to have a like/hate relationship with Samsung, but their phones always seem to draw me back. Smiley Wink
